For general information about children’s language development, Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) has created this wonderful resource for families – Communication Milestones for children from 0-5 years old.
No, you don’t. But if you want to claim rebates for the sessions through Medicare, you will have to visit your local GP and ask for a written “Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan”. The care plan allows you to claim up to 5 speech therapy sessions per calendar year.
We do an optional “meet-and-greet” session as our first session. This takes 30 minutes and allows the clinician to gain background information about the child and to screen the child’s current speech and language skills. This also allows families and the clinician to discuss any concerns, goals, and the next step of the assessment or therapy process.
Parents can also choose to skip the “meet-and-greet” session and request a speech therapy assessment in the first session. The assessment takes approximately one hour. How the clinician assesses the child’s current skills depends on the child’s age and needs.
Since we provide only mobile services, sessions will take place at your home, day care/kindy, school, and/or an agreed location.
A ‘meet and greet’ session usually takes 30 minutes. An initial assessment sessions usually takes 1 hour. For therapy, we provide 30-, 45-, and 60-minute sessions depending on your needs and funding.
A fee schedule will be sent as soon as we receive your enquiries. Since we come to your place, we will charge a travel fee. After every session, an invoice will be sent on email and you can pay us online using a debit or credit card.
The frequency of sessions depends on the child’s age, needs, level of funding, and the availability of both the client and the clinician. The most common ones are weekly and fortnightly sessions. However, more/less frequent sessions are available on a case-by-case basis.
Yes we do! Our services are holistic – meaning we consider every aspect of the client’s life when we manage their communication difficulties. We work closely with GPs, Occupational Therapists (OT), Psychologists, teachers etc. to make sure everyone is involved and supported in the therapy process.
Please email us on info@talk2connect.com.au or speak to your treating therapist directly. We appreciate any feedback about the way that we provide our services. An anonymous online feedback form is also available for clients who wish to provide feedback.
Please fill out the Contact Form and we will contact you and schedule an appointment very shortly.
We strongly encourage families to be present during the session. Our clinician will touch base with the families at the start and at the end of every session about the child’s progress. Parents are encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback about the session.
For school or day care visits, it is not necessary for families to be present. We will communicate with the staff and teachers about the child’s progress. We will also email the progress notes to the families to keep everyone involved.
