Speech Therapy Toys and Resources for Toddlers

Hello everyone! I would like to share some of the Speech Therapy toys for toddlers that I have used in my speech and language therapy sessions. These toys and resources can be easily found in stores and are inexpensive. Today we are going to talk about how to use Bubbles to teach our little ones some simple speech sounds, words, play skills, and more!

So all we need are some bubbles. They can be bubbles in a wand, jar, etc. First, we need to set up an environment where there are not too many distractions (e.g., turning TV off, putting other toys away). Next, have an adult holding the bubble wand stick and wait for the child to initiate. Once they are interested, we can model saying “it’s bubbles, b-b-bubbles. Do you wanna play bubbles? Say ‘Open’“. Now we will wait for the child to say “open”, or make gestures/noises to try to tell us to do something with the bubbles.

Ideas for Parents About Modelling Words and Phrases

Blow“, “bubbles“, “big ones”, “pop“, “gone“, and “more” are some of the common and useful words that we can teach to facilitate the language skills for toddlers. Also, these words contain some of the early developing sounds such as /b/, /p/, /g/, and /m/. For parents who speak 2 or more languages at home, playing bubbles with your bilingual children while introducing different words and phrases in your home language can benefit the language skills for toddlers.
